Beltestakk, Broad-belt from Telemark

With its characteristic broad belt, this Bunad belongs in the middle of Telemark. The Beltestakk may be found in a wide variety of beautiful colors.

The silver: This Bunad should be decorated with a Bol-brooch and/or a serpent-brooch and/or a barley-ring as the main brooch. A horn-ring and/or barley-ring and/or neck pin and/or neck-buttons (up until 5 different types of brooches on the chest). Cufflinks, eyelets (These being the only ones one may have more of, between 3 to 6 pairs), buckles and a purse clasp. Most choose oxidized silver for the Bunad, but some prefer their silver gilded, a little dark and old fashioned.

Bol brooch

Bol brooch

In Telemark it was a tradition that girls used the serpent brooch. When she got married she was given a Bol brooch. The Snake brooch was then moved down from its top position on the chest, and the Bol brooch would take its place. Nowadays this tradition is quite unknown, not even the people that tailor the Bunad necessarily know about it.
The Bol brooch-symbolism derives from the catholic era in Norway. The middle Bol symbolize Jesus, and the twelve Bols around symbolize the twelve apostles. The tongue-edge around this kind of brooch symbolizes The Holy Spirit that encircles all the rest.

Ripple rings

Ripple rings

These rings are often called neck rings because they are used to hold the neck collar together. The silversmiths on the other hand refer to this brooch as a ripple ring. This is because the brooch is made up of "ripples" arranged in a circle. This is a type of filigree that looks like a spring laid on its side, coiled around a small orb and soldered in place. The ripple ring can replace the Neck pin.

Eyelets

Eyelets

An eyelet in this setting is an ornamental piece that looks great and functions as something to thread the eyelet chain through. Some types of Bunad use eyelets and the chain to make it possible to hold the waist piece together. Other types of Bunad, like the Øst-Telemark Bunad and the Beltestakk only use them as a status symbol and for ornamental purposes. All the prices are for a pair.

Earrings

Some critics feel that earrings do not belong on a Bunad. Strictly speaking this is correct. Back in time, the earrings were totally useless because the ears were covered with ether hair or a shawl or hat. Nowadays many skip the headgear and feel that it's a bit empty without anything in the ears.
