Romsdal gentleman

The gentleman's Bunad from Romsdal have been in use since the beginning of the 1920s. The Bunad is made with either a waistcoat or a knee-long coat, both in grey spotted fulled woolen cloth. The vest may be either square-patterned or in one color, and the knee breeches are either black or blue.

The neck button and cufflinks are in silver, whilst the buttons and buckles may also be in tin. In the coat there are 5 pairs of buttons in the front and a pair on each lower collar, 4 buttons on the sleeves and 3 on the pocket covers. For the vest one may have 4 to 5 pairs of buttons and a button in each lower collar. The breeches close with 3 buttons in the waistline and 3 to 4 buttons and a buckle by the knee lining. The shirt closes in the neck with a neck button and in the sleeves with cufflinks made from silver. Shoe buckles, a knife, a timepiece and a chain is needed to make the set complete.

If there are buttonholes in the collar of the shirt, you can use neck buttons. If your collar lacks holes you should use a neck pin.

You will find buttons in a wide variety. Everything from the "hobo" button (fanteknappen) to the more complex Holland buttons.

These buckles have a purely practical function. They tighten the breeches over the stockings by the knee, and they tighten the back of the vest. The fact that it showed higher status the more silver you had in these buckles, was of course important in the day.

When you buy silver as a gift, it's not always easy to know what silver the receiver prefers with his or hers Bunad. With this in mind, we made gold bullions. The bullions have the following values; 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 NOK. Simply choose the one (or ones) you want, and proceed to checkout. When the bullion is yours, a gift certificate will be e-mailed to you right away.
When the silver is to be picked out and the gift certificate to be used, we may easily be reached by phone or e- mail, and we will subtract the given amount of money from your gift certificate.
